You may have noticed that there's something extra special about Dorothy. No, it's not her extra cute cheek freckles or her super shiny coat! Dorothy came to us completely blind and we're not entirely sure what this girl had gone through before she arrived in our care. Dorothy was rescued off the streets with her two newborn kittens, but she was in a dire state herself. She was suffering from pneumonia and in order to treat her, we needed to separate her from her kittens temporarily. They went into a temporary foster home to be bottle-fed but thankfully, we were able to reunite them once she had completely recovered. Now that her two kittens have been adopted, Dorothy is waiting for a home of her own. This sweet girl is very cautious about her surroundings, and needs a little time to learn to trust new people. She is still startled by unfamiliar touch Despite her lack of vision, Dorothy gets around really well and we're sure to keep her area in a consistent state so as not to confuse her. She loves hunting toys that crinkle and jingle, she will play with the other cats that cross her path, and jumps and climbs around just fine once she's familiar with a setup. Dorothy can be a little nervous with new people and you need to go slow with her so she knows that you're safe. She may give you a gentle sniff at first and an invitation to offer her a chin scratch if she doesn't back away! She'll still sometimes flinch at unexpected touch, but when you go at her pace she will give a gentle headbutt and even roll over on her belly if she's feeling extra comfortable with you. Dorothy has had a few obstacles in life but we know that there's a patient home out there willing to help her adjust and feel safe. Come visit Dorothy at Animal Haven!
