The story of Humphrey, previously named Slugo began in October 2009 with someone abandoning him and his siblings in Newark. Fortunately, a compassionate person brought him and his siblings to Animal Haven. During one of his walks with an Animal Haven volunteer my husband spotted him. He had on a vest that said “Adopt Me”. The volunteer encouraged my husband to visit the shelter. A couple of days later, my husband asked me if I would like to visit Animal Haven. As an animal lover, I immediately said “yes”, and once we saw him together, we knew in our heart we would have to make him part of our family which included two boys and three cats. Since then, Humphrey has brought more laughter and smiles to our household than we could ever imagine. This formerly abandoned dog is now the mascot of the New York City Police Department Transportation Bureau, where he helps in furthering the “Vision Zero” initiative to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities. His hard work, never goes unnoticed because he is often rewarded with chicken and/or fillet mignon as part of his regular diet. He is indeed a story of rags to fame! Thank You Animal Haven.
