"We adopted Beatrice (formerly known as Morgan) on November 30 over the Thanksgiving weekend and approximately six months after we said goodbye to our beloved Albert, who was an animal Haven alumnus.
The first few weeks were quite challenging as Bea did not really seem to have much experience walking on a leash or seemingly being in the vicinity of other dogs, and we really started to wonder what we had gotten ourselves into. But we told ourselves to be patient as she adjusted to a new environment and new people. We worked with a trainer over several weeks and did a lot of practice with her at home.
Over time she started to settle in and feel more comfortable, and so did we. Now at the six month mark after her adoption date, we can say that we are so proud of Bea for how much she’s grown and learned. She is a happy, very sweet little dog who loves to play and take naps have her belly rubbed and perch on the end of the sofa and look out the window. She also sits very politely to have her feet wiped down and teeth brushed every night.
We learned early on that she needs tougher toys than Albert did when she destroyed the little stuffy that Animal Haven sent us home with within 15 minutes. She now has her favorite tough snake toy and her favorite duck toy that she can play tug with as well as plenty of tennis balls that she likes to chase and retrieve. And she has learned not to react to most of the many dogs in the neighborhood.
We are so happy that we could give Bea a loving home after she was found wandering around the streets of Dumbo, and she in turn has brightened our daily lives and filled a hole in our hearts. We’re so grateful to everyone at Animal Haven for taking her in and trusting us with her care.
Thank you for everything you do."
