Dora arrived to Animal Haven in mid July, after her previous owner tragically lost their life. She was heavily pregnant and days away from going into labor. When our vets conducted an ultrasound, they cautioned that Dora may need a C-section due to her size and the number of puppies expected. Thanks to our amazing Recovery Road Fund supporters, we were able to cover Dora's emergency C-section and follow-up care. After raising her puppies big and strong, Dora was ready to start the next chapter in her life: Going home!
"I had been looking to adopt for a long time and one day on a whim, I decided to stop by Animal Haven on my way home from work. While I was waiting to meet another dog, I saw a pregnant pup being carried through the shelter. As she passed by, we locked eyes, and in that moment, knew she was the one. I later learned her name was Dora.
In the beginning, Dora was extremely shy, withdrawn and anxious. I accepted that perhaps this was just her personality and something we’d both have to work around. But I couldn't have been more wrong. Once she realized she was in a safe, loving, and forever home, Dora’s true self came bursting out! Turns out Dora is silly, playful, curious, super cuddly and a total DIVA!
Watching her confidence grow day by day has been such a joy and she's truly living her best life. We’ve also been consistently working with a trainer to set her up for long-term success, and she’s already made amazing progress in such a short time. I couldn’t be more proud of her!
