Animal Haven helped take “best in show” to the next level for New York Fashion Week! In partnership with designers Rachel Antonoff and Susan Alexandra, Animal Haven brought 16 adoptable pups to a dog show-themed runway show in DUMBO, Brooklyn. (Read our pup Magnolia's take on the whole experience in Vogue, here.)
Antonoff, a fashion designer known for her inclusive, maximalist pieces, had a vision to include rescue dogs in her collaborative show with Alexandra, who designs eye-catching accessories—including dog leashes and collars. The show was by the amazing Jacqueline Novak and Kate Berlant and judged by the wonderful Bridget Everett. The red carpet was graced with sensational models including Dylan Mulaney, Katie Sturino, Atsuko Okatsuka, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and SO many more.
Our pups—which ranged from a senior Beagle to a litter of puppies—were each paired with a model and outfitted in Alexandra’s chic walk sets. Antonoff, who has a huge heart for rescue animals and is a long-time supporter of Animal Haven, wanted the show to raise awareness for adoption and showcase just how fabulous a rescue pet can be. While every dog on the runway was our Best in Show, only one took the Most Exquisite ribbon home—our wonderful special needs bulldog mix, Elmer. And he took that ribbon home in the most literal sense - Elmer was adopted too!
While Elmer and many of the dogs that walked the runway have been adopted, there are still so many waiting for homes at Animal Haven! To adopt any of the Fashion Week pups, visit our adoptable puppies & dogs page here!
