Avon

Avon Barksdale is a playful, gentle, and regal boy. He was initially adopted by a young married couple in 2020 from Animal Haven. Tragically and suddenly, Avon’s adopted dad passed away this year. His mom has tried to support Avon financially and emotionally, but she knows Avon deserves a better home and a family able to give him more attention than she can alone, working long days and nights in the music industry. Avon is, in his mom’s words, “a perfect dog. A king stuck in a dog's body.” Avon loves to give smiles (showing all of his teeth at once), he loves affection (though sometimes prefers you come to him, he is a king after all). He is entirely potty trained; even with a backyard, he has too much respect for the yard and would rather wait for a walk to go to the bathroom. He loves his crate, it brings him comfort, but he’s also equally comfortable curling up on the couch and resting his chin on any body part you’ll allow him. He cares deeply about impressing people — in other words, he’s a total ham. With his brother, he can be a bit territorial over high value treats like bully sticks, but at daycare and with other dogs, he’s friendly and playful. He loves to sleep in (and snore, on occasion), and he’s happy to roam alone or be in his crate for long hours if needed. He wants to own his neighborhood walks, he likes to walk around like the mayor, smiling and stopping at familiar faces along the way. Again, his mom is biased, but he is “the best boy.” His dad was a frequenter of Alcoholics Anonymous, and Avon became a staple of the group — so much so that members would give him gifts like bandanas and toys. He walked around meetings respectfully and quietly, knowing who needed comfort and when. He’s intuitive, brilliant, and a deeply kind and goofy soul. He loves classical music, and if you want him to enter a deep relaxation state, just play the playlist “Dreamy Forest Music” on Spotify. He’ll be snoring in seconds.
