Maria's life began in Mexico's Yucatn Peninsula, where she was found by a kind rescuer dragging her legs through the dirt. At just 10-months-old, she was born paralyzed in her back legs. Our doctors are still working to firm up a specific diagnosis but it's unlikely that she'll ever be able to use her back legs again. Despite her condition, Maria is a spunky pup who doesn't let much get in her way. She loves to play and isn't shy about letting you know when she wants your attention! She can be vocal at times because she's trying so hard to communicate what she wants but is so content to settle in when there's not much to get in to. Maria has been nursing up a persistent raw wound on her right thigh caused by constant dragging. She's been getting cleaned up with fresh bandages and her wounds have been healing up well, but they still get irritated occasionally. We know this pup loves to move and play so we've fitted her with temporary wheels while she waits for her custom-made ones to come in. She's still figuring it all out but she's learning more every day. Maria does well in diapers overall but they need to be changed frequently to ensure she doesn't develop uncomfortable rashes.
