Betsie Needs Your Help

She was found abandoned in a hallway in Brooklyn — alone, in pain, and covered in filth. We don’t know how long she suffered before help finally came.
When law enforcement brought her to NYC ACC, Betsie weighed just 26 pounds, a skeleton beneath 7 pounds of severely matted fur. Once shaved of the painful mats, her spine, ribs, and hip bones jutted through her thin skin. Her body condition score was just 2 out of 9, and bloodwork revealed anemia.
Even worse, her mats had strangled her tail so severely that the tissue beneath had begun to rot. Vets uncovered necrotic skin, infection oozing, and her bone had been completely exposed.
And yet Betsie remains sweet and gentle, quietly wagging what’s left of her injured tail. She still leans in for affection. She still trusts. Vets think Betsie is around 5 years old, who knows how long she had been suffering in this neglected state. Animal Haven stepped up to take her in, but now we need your help to save her. Her body tells a story of long-term neglect and suffering, but her spirit hasn’t given up. And neither will we.
Despite her fragile condition, her surgery couldn’t wait. Her life was at risk without immediate intervention, as doctors were afraid she might go septic if they waited any longer. She went immediately into surgery, and we're relieved and grateful to share that she pulled through.
